Intro to Darwin

Darwin

Studying the right trade course in Darwin can put you a pathway for an in-demand occupation that has strong permanent visa prospects.

Darwin is a unique place found at the top of Australia filled with bountiful places to explore. It has a culturally rich Indigenous heritage to learn from as well as an incredibly friendly community to be involved in. Every Australian will tell you that the Northern Territory is like nowhere else. Darwin is a very modern city with a warm, pleasant and tropical climate and is surrounded by calming surf and lush greenery. You could spend your days exploring the greater area around the city, where there are wondrous stretches of desert, towers of natural monoliths, gorgeous fresh waterholes and other breath taking natural sights like the Katherine Gorge, the world famous Uluru, Kakadu National Park and the Karlu Karlu Devil’s Marbles.

Darwin is also known for its incredible ecosystem and Australian wildlife. You could learn about the in-depth plant life, go on bird watching tours or even spot wild crocodiles in an unforgettable river cruise.

Since Darwin is home to a wealth of Indigenous culture, you could visit one of the many Aboriginal art galleries in the city centre or take a tour led by an Indigenous guide to learn about the local Larrakia people’s Dreamtime stories. Many internationals are drawn to Darwin for its raw genuine Aussie experience, friendly community, breath taking natural surrounds and laidback lifestyle.

Darwin is classified as a regional area, which means students can now claim an additional 5 points on the Australian Immigration Points Test for studying in a regional area and may be able to apply for a Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491).

Trade & Vocational Courses

Why study a trade?

Studying the right trade or vocational course can greatly increase your chances of receiving Work Visas to Australia.

But migration can be very difficult to understand. There are so many different types of visas and so much information out there, which can make it super challenging to know what is accurate for your circumstance.

Therefore we’ve created a booklet for you that explains a pathway that has been tried and tested. Study & Stay has had many of its students successfully go down this path to achieve Permanent Residency.

This pathway is not for everyone, however it may be for you!

Study a course or package of courses that go for at least 2 years and includes the Certificate III in a relevant trade coruse

By studying for 2 years and undertaking a 360 hours vocational placement during your studies (most education providers will arrange this for you), you may be eligible to apply for and receive the Temporary Graduate Visa. The graduate visa is a work visa that allows the visa holder to live and work in Australia for up to 18 months. For more information on the Graduate Visa, click here.

The main benefit of the JRP is that on completion you will be provided with a positive skills assessment for general migration purposes. On this program, you must work for at least 12 months as a qualified Boat Builder.

Your employer will not need to sponsor your visa, as you will already be on the graduate visa. This will mean that you have a much higher chance of finding employment as it is very easy for the employer to hire you. You may find this video on the Job Ready Program helpful.

Once you have completed the Job Ready Program as a Boat Builder you will receive a positive skills assessment. Once you have the positive skills assessment you may be able to apply for general skilled migration visas. If eligible, the general skilled migration visas (Skilled Independent Subclass 189, State Nominated Subclass 190 or Regional Nominated Subclass 491) do not require you to have an employer that is willing to sponsor your visa. Please note that you will still be required to pass the points test and health checks to apply for this visa.
